Part 1
When I was a little kid everyone seemed to watch out for me. For example one day when I was in pre-school I was lying down for naptime and I accidentally bumped my head. It didn't really hurt so I didn't tell anyone but I guess my teacher saw me bump my head. She made a huge deal about she sent me to the nurse and made sure that I got an ice pack. She said I should leve it against my head even when I told her that it wasn't hurting me at all. Everyone treated me nicely for the rest of the day. My parents got me pizza and they told me how brave I was. To me I had just bumped my head bot to everyone else I was a little kid that had gotten hurt. Like I said, when you're a little kid everyone seems to watch out for you.
Part 2
By fifth grade all these things had changed for me. There wasn't always someone watching out for me. I had more responsibility and I did a lot of things on my own. So anyway I was in gym class playing baseball with some of my friends. Someone hit a pop up and I made a sliding catch but also ripped a giant gash in my leg. When I looked at the cut I felt sick to my stomach. After school that day I got stitches in my knee. the next day when I was back at school the my teacher didn't even know what had happened to me. As you get older you have to become more and more independent. I guess as you get older people will start to think about you differently whether you want them to or not.

Forward
This project had a pretty broad topic so it took me a while to figure out what my thesis was going to be. I wanted this project to be based on my own life. I tried to think about what had changed in my life from when I was a little kid to now and a bunch of things had changed. I guess the thing that stood out the most to me was the way that people treated me changed so much from when I was younger to now. I used to always have some adult around to help me. Now I have more freedom but I also have more responsibilities and more people depend on me.
After I had finally decided on a thesis to use for this project I still had to pick three genres to use for it. Again, I really wasn't sure what genres I wanted to use but I wanted them to be about the real experiences that I've had in my life. I decided on short stories and poems for two of mthe genres that I had to choose because both of them are short to the point, which is how I want the whole project to be. I only want to have important things in this project. For my last genre I decided to do a visual because I think it will give the people reading this project a better idea of what I'm trying to say.

Coming of Age Poem
When you're little
it's easy to pass the time
playing games
and learning rhymes.
There was always a smile
a happy face
back then
the world was a friendly face.
Now the world
seems sad and blue
there's work and school
and chores to do.
Now that I think
this lifes not so bad
more friends, more sports,
no reason to be sad.
it's easy to pass the time
playing games
and learning rhymes.
There was always a smile
a happy face

the world was a friendly face.
Now the world
seems sad and blue
there's work and school
and chores to do.
Now that I think

more friends, more sports,
no reason to be sad.

Outsiders Essay #2
I just finished reding the book the Outsiders and I noticed how the main character in this book, Ponyboy really grew up from the beginning of the book to the end of this book. I think a major part of Ponyboy's coming of age was his family. I think that because of family issues Ponyboy had to take on more responsibilities and be more mature.
In the beginning of the book Ponyboy seemed like he really depended on his brothers for a lot of things. Darry was supposed to give him food and and kind of let Ponyboy know what the rules are. Ponyboy depended on his other brother, Soda for support and friendship. He didn't do many things without having at least one of his brothers with him. At the beginning of the book they were like Ponyboy's parents.(his parents had passed away in a car accident.)
Towards the end of the book after friends passed away and endless fighting with each other, the family became closer to each other. Ponyboy realized that his brothers also had proplems, it wasn't just him. He started to help his brothers with their problems as well as his own. He also learned how to be by himself and do things on his own. As Ponyboy became more mature he seemed to get less afraid. This is the opposite for a lot of people. For some people the more they know, the more afraid they are. By the end of the book, I think that Ponyboy became a more kind and caring type of person.
I think that family always will play an important part in every kids life. When family members are fighting, to a kid it seems like the end of the world and you realize how bad things can be. When everything gets fixed and there's no fighting in the family you kind of appreciate it, even though it's nothing special. I think that this is kind of what happened to Ponyboy. Events like family issues make people grow or come of age because they have to take on more responsibilities to help solve the problems that they're going through during that time.
To sum this up, what I'm tyring to say is that family is a very important part of everybody's life so its not really a surprise that family plays a big part in growing up. This happened to Ponyboy and it probably happens to people in real life too.

Responce to Question #10
There are always traditional markers for growing up in every culture. Ithink some of the most iwportant ones in American culture are things like being able to vote or drink alcohol. Or it could be when you get a real job or when you move out from living with your parents.
I think that society defines adulthood with things like age (usually 18 or 21.) I think age isn't really that important in growing up, it really depends on the person. Some people have to grow up earlier so they can help support their family just so they can eat a good amount of food. Other people live in better situations and they don't have to grow up as fast.
It sounds strange when you hear about people growing up in other cultures. You hear about people working, driving , and even going into the army when they're our age. Like I said before I don't think age shoulb be such a landmark for growing up because it will always be different for everyone. Everyone is in a edifferent situation and I think that this is an important part of how soon people wil grow up.

Coming of Age Responce to #9
I think that growing up is when you don't get into fights anymore. When you live by yourself, and pay the bills, and when you understand what's going on in the world. I guess when you're grown up, you're able to take care of yourself.
I guess in some ways I am growing up like I can do odd jobs to get a little money but I still depend on my parents a lot. In most ways I'm still just a kid I play basketball with my friends I don't have to think much about paying for things like food.
I'm happy that I'm still a kid I mean being an adult doesn't sound so great. It seems like a lot of hard work. Maybe in a few years from now the idea of being grown up will sound better but for now, beind akid is good enough for me.

Essay about The Outsiders
In the book The Outsiders a lot of character seem to grow up and come of age. I don't really think that in this book age is what matters. It's more about the events that happen to you and how these events change your life. I noticed that a lot of sad things happened in this book and afterwards the people involved seemed to grow up. Maybe after these terrible things happen the survivors have more responsibility. It's not even always death, sadness in general seems to make people mature and act older.
The main character of this book is called Ponyboy. His parents are dead and now he lives with his two older brothers Darry, and Soda. Ponyboy and Darry are always arguing and angry with each other. One day Ponyboy runs away with his best friend. When Ponyboy finally gets back to Darry two of his friends have died and everything seems different. When he sees Darry again he realizes how he has enough problems without fighting with his brother. I think this shows maturity that Ponyboy was able to be the bigger person and stop fighting with his brother.
Another important character in this book was Johnny. He was Ponyboy's best friend. He had always been an innocent quiet kid untill one day he killed someone who was trying to drown Ponyboy. This experience really changed Johnny. Anyway, a few days after this while hiding from the police a building caught on fire with children in it. Johnny went into the building and was able to save all of the children but he lost his own life in the fire. Johnny had always been scared and quiet but after killing that kid he realized how precious life is and saved those children. Most kids would have been to scared to do this but Johnny did it anyway.
There was one more very important character in the book, his name was Dally. He was areally tough kid that had been to prison a bunch of times. People twice his size were afraid of him. When people looked at him they saw only hatrid. He was mean to everyone he met, it seemed like there was no one that he really cared about except Johnny. He would beat up everyone except Johnny. It was like he was the only thing that mattered to Dally. When Johnny died in the fire Dally killed himself. I guess it was like when Johnny died he realized all his hatrid wasn't going to get anything done. He realized that if you have nothing that you love then there isn't any reason to keep on living.
What I'm trying to say is that when terrible things happen to people they grow up. Most people would think that this is a good thing but I'm not sure. When people grow up they lose the innocence that children have. In the end though wether it's a good thing or not sad things kind of make people just more tough n general and this leads to maturity and coming of age.

Responce about Ind. Reading Book
Right now the book I'm reading is called Motherless Brooklyn. The main character in this book is named Lionel Essrog and he has tourettes syndrome. It makes him do compulsive things like cursing and poking things. Lionel is an orphan and all the people living around him are big and tough. Most people like him would try to stay hidden but having tourettes makes Lionel stand out.
It sounds kind of crazy but the tourettes kind of makes people like Lionel. People call him freak but I don't really think that they mean it in a bad way. They thinks he's brave to talk trash to people way bigger than he is. They aren't educated and I don't think that they even know what tourettes is. Lionel doesn't even know what tourettes is. No one ever tought him.
I don't know anyone that has tourettes but just from how they make it seem in the book, it sounds terrible. I think that the author gave Lionel tourettes for an important reason. Another thing the book talks about is if Lionel is so good at being a "detective"(he's an illegal detective) because of his tourettes or despite that he has tourettes. Most people would think that this is a disadvantage to Lionel but I think it helps him stay focused. It's like the tourettes is making him feel this need to solve every single one of the cases he takes. Also a lot of the characters seem very ignorant and think that just because he has tourettes that he's dumb. By the way he's illegal because he supposedly works in a car servive. They don't even own any cars to rent out.
Lionel is actually really smart. He had to be to survive his chidhood in a scary orphanage. Because of tourettes, sometimes Lionel cursed at the older, bigger, scarier kids. Somehow he always seemed to escape the orphanage without getting hurt too badly. He's smart enough to apologize to the older kids and act like they're so great. Now that they're all grown up and working together, he's their equal.
Tourettes syndrome has played a huge part in Lionel's life but he keeps going, living with tourettes and finding ways to deal with it. Even with tourettes, Lionel has never felt sorry for himself and he's even been able to help some people by working for a detective agency. He's had a rough life and he still finds ways to help others. People should give Lionel a little more respect and treat him better because he's just like an every day hero.

Post About My Favorite Blogs
One blog that I really liked was Tomin's. All of his entries seemed really deep and they made me think (especially the poems.) Also, all of the entries used really good vocabulary. The entries that weren't poems really long and I coulsee that he elaborated a lot. All of the poems made me think. I thought Done was an interesting one.
Another blog that I liked a lot was Gabriel's. Some of his entries are really funny which I like but he also has spme serious entries that I also liked. The Mona Lisa haiku was funny. I thought all of the poems were pretty good.

Responce to Poem
We read the poem about the Jordans in class yesterday and so far, it's my favorite poem that we've read in class so I'm responding to it. At first when we read it Iliked it (because it rhymed.) But then, when I actually thought about the words and the message that thepoem sent, it seemed kind of creepy. Even if the things in the poem didn't actually happen, it still seems creepy that someone would kill an innocent person for Jordans. The main character didn't even no why he wanted the Jordans. It seems to me that the poets point of this poem is to say that we live in a terrible world, where people are greedy and selfsh, they care about no one but themselves. Is this really true? I don't think that people are that bad. It least most of the time unless they're crazy or something like that. I hope there aren't many people like that out in the real world.

Poem
The Jets Lose! This poem is based on a true story.
Sanchez moans
Cromartie groans
Rex Ryan flips
as the team slips
L.T. is stopped
the Jets are dropped
Holmes wishes he was back
In Pittsburgh
Where the Jets just got smacked
The Jets will go home
where they'll cry whine and moan
they hold losing dear
they do it year after year
Sanchez moans
Cromartie groans
Rex Ryan flips
as the team slips
L.T. is stopped
the Jets are dropped
Holmes wishes he was back
In Pittsburgh
Where the Jets just got smacked
The Jets will go home
where they'll cry whine and moan
they hold losing dear
they do it year after year

Poem About Important Event
Martin Luther King Jr.
a leader and hero
he brought us together
using peace not violence
He changed how we look at things
tought us that we're all equal
the same
he made the world a better place
He was always peaceful
never resorting to violence
calm and ready for anything
he was always the bigger person
Make his dream come true
a leader and hero
he brought us together
using peace not violence
He changed how we look at things
tought us that we're all equal
the same
he made the world a better place
He was always peaceful
never resorting to violence
calm and ready for anything
he was always the bigger person
Make his dream come true

Responce to Artwork
Since we had to respond to a piece of art I responded to the mona lisa by Leonardo Di Vinci. I know that this piece of art is really famous so I wonder what my opinion will be in comparrison to the opinion of important art critics. I got the picture from http://www.metmuseum.org/worksofart/collectiondatabase. I notice that mona lisa kind of has this annoyed look on her face. She also looks like she's stressed out and tired. I think that she's had some bad things happen to her, I wonder what her life was like before the painting.
The background of the painting looks kind of dark and gloomy. I think it means that outside of the painting, bad things were going on at that time. The picture makes it look like Mona Lisa is almost like the queen of whatever place the background is. Even though things look really gloomy in the picture, it looks like Mona Lisa kind of has a little bit of a smile. Maybe things are going to get better.
